Community Empowerment Lab

CEL hopes to ignite positive change within our community by empowering justice-involved youth. We believe in the transformative power of leadership, advocacy, and collaboration. Our approach is holistic, focusing on youth development, community engagement, and the nurturing of future leaders.

CEL envisions a community where every voice is heard, where justice-involved youth are given the tools to lead, and where collective action leads to lasting change.

Our Approach

Youth Development: Our Junior Youth Leaders undergo a transformative journey, completing a rigorous Youth Empowering Youth leadership curriculum. They also dive into a Generator entrepreneurship curriculum and gain firsthand knowledge through an internship with local nonprofits. Armed with these skills, they embark on projects that strengthen our community, working both individually and collaboratively.
Youth Commission: Our 10 Youth Commissioners, selected by the Holyoke Youth Task Force, are Senior Youth Leaders committed to continuing their journey of empowerment. They complete the Youth Empowering Youth leadership curriculum, develop strategic workplans, and lead by example. They actively engage Junior Youth Leaders and form the Holyoke Youth Coalition, a platform for youth voices to shape our community's future.

CEL aims to strengthen the assets and resilience of all participants, nurturing new leaders with lived experiences within the justice system. By working together, we strive to improve community well-being, address challenges, and create a brighter future for all.
